At Extendicare Holyrood, we continuously enhance our skills and abilities to meet the increasing care needs of our residents, families and our community. Our professional staff, which includes occupational therapists, physiotherapists, recreation therapists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, dietitian, pharmacist and social worker, provide care for individuals with many complex needs. Residents can rest assured that our competent team - who are on staff 24-hours per day - will manage their health and social needs.
Nursing Care
At Extendicare Holyrood our nursing department is based on the Wellness Model of Care, which supports Extendicare’s Commitment to Residents. Individualized care plans provide the foundation for meeting the care needs of residents. The process includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning and education. The interdisciplinary team develops individualized care goals with involvement from the resident and his or her family.
Our nursing department provides round-the-clock care through a competent and knowledgeable team of registered nurses and health care aides. Our staff are trained to promote independence by providing residents with the assistance that they require and by recognizing success in their efforts.

Dietary Services
Our dietary department provides nutritious home-cooked meals individualized to the needs of each resident. The five-week menu cycle has been developed by registered dietitians in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide, as well as taking into account each resident's nutritional requirements, likes and dislikes, and ethnic and cultural preferences. All meals are prepared onsite and served restaurant-style in our dining areas.
Social Work Services
Admission into a long-term care facility can be a big change for residents and their families. Our social worker, a member of our interdisciplinary team, provides supportive counselling, information and education with regard to adjustment, psychosocial and financial issues, guardianship, trusteeship, and referrals to appropriate community resources as needed. Our social worker strives to enhance the dignity and quality of life of all those who live, visit and work at Extendicare Holyrood.
Resident Programs
Our occupational therapist and aide help the residents maintain or improve necessary skills for living such as self care, productivity and leisure. The team conducts physical and mental assessments, and considers psychosocial and environmental factors that affect function. Together with the resident and family members, a program is developed to maintain or improve independence.
Recreation staff provide programs to residents that are specialized to meet their social, emotional, physical, spiritual or intellectual needs. Recreation programs are offered seven days a week, including some evenings.
A variety of therapeutic programs are available at the facility, including baking, crafts, games, church programs, happy hour and many more. Special occasions, holidays and seasonal events also contribute to the diversity of our programs. We encourage family involvement in all our programs.
