Nursing Care
At Extendicare Mayerthorpe we achieve our nursing care goals through the Wellness Model of Care. Care goals are determined with the resident and family, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Desired levels of independence, dignity, and personal preference are all part of the planning process, making each resident feel welcome and at home, while meeting their specific needs. This is achieved through Extendicare programs like Health Trac, Guardian Angel and C.A.R.E.
Elements of care provided can include preventative, restorative, rehabilitative, supportive and palliative care, or a combination of these.
At Extendicare Mayerthorpe, registered nursing professionals are onsite 24-hours a day. Accurate record keeping, as a component of our quality improvement activities, ensures that standards are met, reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis.

Dietary Services
We provide nutritious, home-cooked meals in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide. Our dietitian works closely with our dedicated caregivers to assess the nutritional requirements of each of our residents and integrates their needs into a balanced nutritional meal plan.
Our Resident and Family Executive council meets regularly to discuss, review and make suggestions for revisions to our menu. Quality is assured for our residents through ongoing communication, feedback, and through our quality assurance program.
Social Work Services
Admission into a long-term care facility can be a very difficult process. Our social worker helps residents and their families become acquainted and accustomed to this new living environment.
The social worker, a member of our interdisciplinary team, provides supportive counselling, information and education with regard to adjustment, psychosocial issues, financial issues and referrals to appropriate community resources.
Social work services strive to enhance the quality of life of all those who live, visit and work at Extendicare Mayerthorpe.

Resident Programs
At Extendicare Mayerthorpe we believe that rehabilitative and restorative care is of utmost importance in maintaining health, fitness and maximum independence.
Our rehabilitation programs focus on activities of daily living, environment, mobility and leisure. Specialized equipment and procedures assist residents as they strive to maintain and/or improve their functional abilities.
The majority of rehabilitation programs take place in our home and rely on the resident, his or her family and the rehabilitation professional for developing the best individualized therapeutic plan of care.
Extendicare Mayerhtorpe offers a variety of programs that fulfill residents' intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs. Our programs also cater to each resident's unique needs and interests.
Recreation aides provide and facilitate programs seven days a week, including art classes, pet therapy, shopping, church services, music programs, bingo, board games, cooking and baking, outdoor walks and much more. Outings to community festivals, events and venues are also regularly organized.
Families are encouraged to participate in programs with their loved one. Private areas are also available for family gatherings.
