Nursing Care
At Extendicare Mississauga we achieve our nursing care goals through the Wellness Model of Care. Care goals are determined with the resident and family, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team. Desired levels of independence, dignity, and personal preference are all part of the planning process, making each resident feel welcome and at home, while meeting their specific needs. This is achieved through Extendicare programs like Health Trac, Guardian Angel and C.A.R.E.
Professional nursing staff are onsite 24-hours a day. Care aides provide hands-on care at the bedside, assisting residents with the essential activities of daily living. Accurate record keeping, as a component of our quality improvement activities, ensures that provincial, regional, and Extendicare standards are met, reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis.
Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias can live life to its fullest in a safe, supportive and caring environment. Our 22-bed special care unit is designed and staffed with those needs in mind.

Dietary Services
We pride ourselves in providing nutritious home-cooked meals. Our in house registered dietitian assesses the nutritional requirements of our residents on a regular basis. Together with our residents, families and registered team members, our dietitian develops the best-suited nutritional plan of care.
Changes to our menu are made as a result of the feedback that we receive from our Resident Food Committee. The total dining experience is important to us and is assured through ongoing communication and feedback.

Social Work Services
Admission into a long-term care centre can be very difficult for residents and their loved ones. Our social worker can help residents and families become acquainted and accustomed to this new living environment.
The social worker, a member of our interdisciplinary team, provides supportive counselling, information and education with regard to adjustment, psychosocial issues, financial issues and referrals to appropriate community resources.
Social work services strive to enhance the quality of life of all those who live, visit and work at Extendicare Mississauga.

Resident Programs
Extendicare Mississauga provides restorative care to our residents seven days a week. The program focuses on the independence of residents through restorative eating, mobility, range of motion and personal care programming. Upon admission, all residents have their needs assessed and they are then enrolled in the appropriate restorative care programs.
Recreational activities and programming is also available at our home seven days a week. We offer a variety of programs that focus on the spiritual, emotional, social, physical and intellectual needs of each resident, some of which include: Bingo, Tai Chi, social teas, cards and games, pub nights, breakfast club, dinner club, group outings and much more. Special occasions, holidays and seasonal events also contribute to the diversity of our programs.
