Nursing Care
At Extendicare Oshawa we achieve our nursing care goals through the Wellness Model of Care. Care goals are determined with the resident and family, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team. Desired levels of independence, dignity, and personal preference are all part of the planning process, making each resident feel welcome and at home, while meeting their specific needs. This is achieved through Extendicare programs like Health Trac, Guardian Angel and C.A.R.E.
Professional nursing staff are onsite 24-hours a day. Care aides provide hands-on care at the bedside, assisting residents with the essential activities of daily living. Accurate record keeping, as a component of our quality improvement activities, ensures that provincial, regional, and Extendicare standards are met, reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis.
Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias can live life to its fullest in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Dietary Services
At Extendicare Oshawa we pride ourselves in providing nutritious, appetizing, home-cooked meals. Our in-house registered dietitian assesses the nutritional requirements of our residents. With input from the resident, family members and staff, our dietitian develops a nutritional plan of care that best suits the needs of the resident.
Our menu is planned by a registered dietitian. Our Dining Committee, consisting of residents, families and staff, meet regularly to review the current menu and assess meal service. The total dining experience is important to us and is assured through ongoing communication and feedback.

Social Work Services
Admission into a long-term care home can be very difficult for residents and their loved ones. Our social worker can help residents and families become acquainted and accustomed to this new living environment.
As a member of our interdisciplinary team, our social worker provides supportive counselling, information and education with regard to adjustment, psychosocial issues, financial issues, and referrals to appropriate community resources.
Social work services strive to enhance the quality of life of all those who live, visit and work at Extendicare Oshawa.

Resident Programs
Our restorative care team enhances our residents' independence, self-worth and quality of life through physical activities and exercise.
The physiotherapist conducts assessments to develop a restorative care program that is tailored to each resident. Programs include strengthening exercises, walking programs, speech therapy and feeding programs.
The team, consisting of a physiotherapist, physiotherapy assistants, restorative care workers and a massage therapist, use realistic goals to achieve the best possible results for our residents.
We also provide our residents with social and therapeutic programs which meet residents' physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. We value resident choice and lifestyle, which plays a major role in program planning.
Activity programs are offered seven days a week and include: bowling, shuffleboard, fitness programs, community outings, movie nights, bingo, discussion groups, crafts, cards and games, happy hour and much more. Special occasions, holidays and seasonal events also contribute to the diversity of our programs.
