Nursing Care
At Extendicare Medex we achieve our nursing care goals through the Wellness Model of Care. Care goals are determined with the resident and family, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team. Desired levels of independence, dignity, and personal preference are all part of the planning process, making each resident feel welcome and at home, while meeting their specific needs. This is achieved through Extendicare programs like Health Trac, Guardian Angel and C.A.R.E.
Professional nursing staff are onsite 24-hours a day. Care aides provide hands-on care at the bedside, assisting residents with the essential activities of daily living. Accurate record keeping, as a component of our quality improvement activities, ensures that provincial, regional, and Extendicare standards are met, reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis.
Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias can live life to its fullest in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Dietary Services
At Extendicare Medex we pride ourselves in providing nutritious, home-cooked meals. Our in-house registered dietitian assesses each resident's nutritional requirements on a regular basis, and together with families and registered team members, develops the best-suited nutritional plan of care.
Changes to our menu are made as a result of the feedback that we receive from the Resident Food Committee. The total dining experience is important to us and is assured through ongoing communication and feedback.

Social Work Services
Admission into a long-term care centre can be very difficult for residents and their loved ones. Our social worker can help residents and families become acquainted and accustomed to this new living environment.
The social worker, a member of our interdisciplinary team, provides supportive counselling, information and education with regard to adjustment, psychosocial and financial issues and referrals to appropriate community resources.
Social work services strive to enhance the quality of life of all those who live, visit and work at Extendicare Medex.

Resident Programs
Extendicare Medex believes that physical conditioning increases residents' feelings of independence and self-worth as they work together with our rehabilitation team.
The rehabilitation team conducts assessments, and together with the resident and his or her family, develops a suitable rehabilitation or restorative care program. Residents actively participate in walking programs, strengthening exercises and speech language therapy.
We also provide our residents with social and therapeutic programs that meet residents' physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. Resident choice and lifestyle plays a major role in program planning.
Activity programs are offered seven days a week and include: dances, social dinners, shopping excursions, movie nights, bingo, discussion groups, cards, games, theme parties, bowling, art classes and much more. Special occasions, holidays and seasonal events also contribute to the diversity of our programs. We encourage family members to participate in any of our activity programs.
