Nursing Care
At Extendicare Peterborough we achieve our nursing care goals through the Wellness Model of Care. Care goals are determined with the resident and family, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team. Desired levels of independence, dignity, and personal preference are all part of the planning process, making each resident feel welcome and at home, while meeting their specific needs. This is achieved through Extendicare programs like Health Trac, Guardian Angel and C.A.R.E.

Professional nursing staff are onsite 24-hours a day. Care aides provide hands-on care at the bedside, assisting residents with the essential activities of daily living. Accurate record keeping, as a component of our quality improvement activities, ensures that provincial, regional, and Extendicare standards are met, reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis.

Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias can live life to its fullest in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Dietary Services
We pride ourselves in providing nutritious home-cooked meals with relaxed meal service times. Our in-house registered dietitian assesses the nutritional requirements of our residents. With input from residents, families and registered team members, our dietitian develops their best-suited nutritional plan of care.

Our Resident Food Committee consists of a dedicated group of residents who meet monthly to discuss and review the current and upcoming menus. Changes to our menu are a result of direct resident input received from this committee. The total dining experience is important to us and is assured through ongoing communication and feedback.

Resident Programs
We believe that physical conditioning increases residents' feelings of independence and self-worth as they work hand in hand with our rehabilitation team.

A physiotherapist conducts assessments and together with the rehabilitation team, residents and family members, develops a suitable rehabilitation or restorative care program.  In the comfort of our own home, residents actively participate in walking programs, strengthening exercises and speech language therapy. Wheelchair assessments and fittings are made on-site by the physiotherapist and rehabilitation aides.

We also provide our residents with social and therapeutic programs which meet residents' physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. Extendicare Peterborough values resident choice and lifestyle, which plays a major role in our program planning.

Activity programs are offered seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and include: dinner clubs, group outings, movie nights, Bingo, discussion groups, crafts, cards and games, church services, theme parties and much more. Special occasions, holidays and seasonal events also contribute to the diversity of our programs. We encourage family members to participate in any of our recreation programs.
