Extendicare uses a patient-focused approach for residents who may have suffered from a prolonged acute or chronic illness or may have recently been injured or undergone surgery. These residents require ongoing assessment and treatment, and may require nutritional support or assistance with self-care and activities of daily living. In order to meet the needs of each resident at every stage of his or her recovery, Extendicare facilities* (not all Extendicare homes provide this service. Please check directly with the home.) provide a wide range of rehabilitative services, including respiratory, physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Extendicare's rehabilitation program uses the coordinated efforts of an interdisciplinary team, with the goal of returning patients home and/or back to work.
