The Extendicare Summer Undergraduate Student Nurse Program (applicable to Alberta only)
Want to spend the summer away from home and still gain paid experience as Undergraduate Student Nurse?
If that's a BIG "yes", to participate in Extendicare's Summer Undergraduate Student Nurse Program, you must:
1) Have completed year 2 of nursing program.
2) Be willing to learn, have fun, and experience a new city or province (This is a paid position with travel and housing allowance.)
Extendicare has thirteen Alberta Locations: Athabasca, Bonnyville, Calgary (2 facilities), Edmonton (2 facilities), Fort MacLeod, Lethbridge, Mayerthorpe, St Paul, Viking, and Vulcan.
Undergraduate Nurse Job Summary
Summary of Duties
Reporting to the R.N. or Director of Care as required, the Undergraduate Nurse provides quality health care services to residents, including the performance of professional nursing duties and the supervision of care provided by Nurse Aides which is planned to meet residents’ physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. Duties will encompass a variety of nursing functions, although some functions will require direct R.N. supervision. Some R.N. functions are not transferable to nursing students. Each Undergraduate Nurse will complete a skills checklist for those skills in which they have received supervised practice. The skills checklist will become part of their employment file.
Qualifications
1. Successfully completed a minimum of year 2 of the 4 year Baccalaureate Nursing program.
2. Ability to read and write English as well as to understand verbal and written instructions in English at a functional level.
3. Must be knowledgeable in principles and philosophy of long term care; experience in long term care is preferred.
4. Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined including physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, and stretching when moving or transferring residents.
5. Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
6. Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service for residents.
7. Ability to communicate with other staff, residents, families and the public.
