Nursing Care
At Extendicare Guildwood, we continually enhance our skills and abilities to meet the increasing care needs of our residents, their families and our community.  Our nursing team cares for individuals with varied and complex needs.  Residents can be assured that our team of registered nurses, registered practical nurses, health care aides and personal support workers, on staff 24-hours per day, will competently manage their health-related needs.

The long-term loyalty of our nursing team is evident by those who have worked at Guildwood for 30 or more years, proving a commitment to Extendicare and to our centre in the Village of Guildwood.  At the same time, some of our residents have been living under our cathedral ceilings for up to 20 years, indicating a high level of care and comfort at The Home of Caring Hands.

In keeping with our Caring Hands philosophy, individuals with illnesses such as Alzheimer’s,  Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson's, have the opportunity to live life to its fullest in a safe and caring environment.  Our trained staff continues to promote resident independence by providing the assistance they require.  We value knowledge and skills and promote continuous education for team members, residents and their families.

At Extendicare Guildwood, we encourage and support professional development for our staff by providing detailed orientation, educational training, workshops and seminars and an extensive textbook and video library.  Staff is encouraged to seek further education in the community, as we are willing to accommodate work schedules and review applications for financial assistance.

Resident Programs

-
Restorative Care

The restorative care program at Extendicare Guildwood aims to maintain abilities, prevent disabilities and to restore as much function as possible to activities of daily living so each resident's highest level of wellness may be achieved.

At Extendicare Guildwood, we believe physical conditioning increases residents' feelings of independence and self-worth as they work "hand in hand” with our restorative care team.

Extendicare Guildwood's registered physiotherapist conducts assessments and together with the Caring Hands Multidisciplinary Team, including the resident, family members, and supportive caregivers, develops a suitable restorative care program for each resident.  In the comfort of his or her home, residents actively participate in  walking programs, strengthening exercises, restorative dining and social therapy.
