At Extendicare Oakview Place, we continue to enhance our skills and abilities to meet the increasing care needs of our residents, families and our community. Care is organized and available to our residents and is consistent with professional standards of practice that meet individual needs.  Our nursing department's aim is to provide a therapeutic environment that facilitates mutual care planning and goal setting and provides holistic care for our residents.

Elements of care provided can include preventative, restorative, rehabilitative, supportive and palliative care, or a combination of these elements.

At Extendicare Oakview Place, registered nursing professionals are onsite 24-hours a day. Accurate record keeping, as a component of our quality improvement activities, ensures that standards are met, reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis.

- Social/Therapeutic Programs

Extendicare Oakview Place offers a variety of programs for residents to attend, participate in and enjoy. Programs are presented in the five holistic needs categories: intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical programs providing a balanced opportunity for residents based on their needs and interests. We encourage independence and choice by our residents in facilitating daily programs.

Outings to community festivals, events and venues are regularly organized particularly in early spring until late fall. Winter months offer a more sporadic opportunity dependent upon the cooperation of our prairie weather. Therefore, increased special events in-house and entertainment provide the perfect comfort during the winter.

Five certified Recreation Workers provide and facilitate programs seven days a week. Short evening programs are offered five days a week by a certified Recreation Worker. Families are encouraged to participate in programs with their loved one if desired, and family gatherings are supported with specific private areas available for a nominal fee that includes beverage and room set-up. A barbeque is available for private family events to create another treasured memory.  Detailed daily record-keeping ensures current information is always available at your request.

Our programs ensure that residents unique needs and interests are acknowledged.  We offer opportunities to participate in art classes, pet therapy, shopping, church services, music programs, bingo, board games, cooking and baking, barbeques, outdoor walks,  and discussion groups.  And this is only a small percentage of our varied programs.

Innovation, variety, quality and support are methods that the Recreation Department uses in Striving To Meet Or Exceed Resident Needs.
