Dietary Services
At Extendicare Tuxedo Villa, we pride ourselves on providing nutritious home-cooked meals. Our Resident Executive Council meets regularly to discuss, review and make suggestions for revisions to our menu. Quality is assured for our residents through ongoing communication and feedback. Fresh produce lovingly grown in our residents' gardens are seasonally incorporated into our menu as garnishes and ingredients.
Our registered dietitian works closely with our dedicated caregivers to assess the nutritional requirements of our residents and integrates their needs into a balanced nutritional meal plan. Refreshments between meals are available which include fruits, sandwiches, cookies and hot or cold beverages. Residents' specific preferences are acknowledged with alternatives to support choices. We recognize that the dining experience is paramount to our residents’ satisfaction and contentment. In recognition of providing an increased quality of life, the dietary service enhances the dietary needs of our diabetic residents.

Environmental Services
At Extendicare Tuxedo Villa, our general services department ensures that our facility remains clean and safe, and our environment inviting.
The general services department is also responsible for supporting each resident's immediate living environment with careful handling of his or her personal items. Our residents' pride is shared with each general services staff member in expressing these items' value and history. It is vital that the general services creates a homey environment for department residents and their families.
The general services department also ensures that residents' apparel is gently managed, laundered and returned.

Religious and Spiritual Services
At Extendicare Tuxedo Villa we understand the diversity of spirituality. Our pastoral care team oversees all pastoral services and spiritual care. Our strong relationship with community clergy affords our residents support during periods of need.
Spiritual programs relevant to many denominations are provided within our home. Spiritual and inspirational programs include hymn singalongs, short bible readings and reflections.
Weekly spiritual services are held and all residents invited to attend regardless of identified denomination. Our pastoral volunteers make regular visits, as well as provide the opportunity for receiving communion and blessings within some denominational practices. Residents' choices are fully respected in defining their spiritual needs. Residents are encouraged to maintain their relationships with community church groups and affiliations. Clergy are invited to provide spiritual support and comfort for their resident member.

Business Office
Extendicare Tuxedo Villa believes in the importance of personal service and recognizes the fact that our residents' and family members' schedules often vary. The business office and reception hours are 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekdays. Receptionists are available on the weekends to assist with inquiries and direct you to the appropriate locations and individuals. Assistance is available Saturdays 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sundays 10:00 am to 8:30 pm.
Our business office recognizes the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of residents' information and financial documentation. Each residents' information is secured in a restricted area with strict access to information protocol followed.
Facility tours can be arranged with the business office at which time your name and contact number will be greatly appreciated for our assistant director of care to make personal contact with you and establish a mutually convenient meeting time for your personal tour.

Hairstylist Services
Our wheelchair accessible salon is located in a centralized area. The hairstylist caters to all of our residents' hairstyling needs. Appointments are arranged directly at the salon with our licensed hairstylist. She will work hard to meet your personalized service needs.

Maintenance Services
Extendicare Tuxedo Villa works hard to maintain a functional, safe, sanitary and attractive environment in accordance with our Commitment to Residents.
The facility’s preventative maintenance program evaluates our equipment before it requires repairs or replacement. The maintenance department is responsible for the grounds and coordinates the contracted gardening team. Our numerous flower beds are a myriad of colours and fragrances.
Interior decoration and renovations are evaluated annually. Our recently renovated bathing area offers a spa-like atmosphere for our residents.

Education Services
The safety of our residents is a key focus of education services. Monthly fire drills are carried out on all shifts to ensure that staff skills are kept to proficient levels, which exceeds the Extendicare fire drill requirements. Education services also provides the opportunity for staff to express their questions regarding any area of technique, procedure or subject regarding to resident care.
All staff are trained through education services in the use of new equipment and all current health care subjects applicable to delivering optimum care to our residents. Pamphlets and monthly themed poster boards to reference a variety of subjects are available to families . External speakers from the community are invited to provide presentations of interest for families to attend. Education services is an important component to delivering consistently superior care by educating and training staff.
Newer initiatives undertaken by the education services department are the comprehensive training requirements of the Extendicare C.A.R.E. Program, Healthtrac, Guardian Angel Program, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Food Handlers Course and SWAT (Skin and Wound Assessment Team) Certification. The department provides leadership on the Infection Control Committee, Occupational Health and Safety Committee, and in establishing a Palliative Care and Ethics Committee. Tuxedo Villa is represented on the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) Infection Control Practitioners Advisory Board, and the Long-Term Care Education Committee. The facility recently participated in the provincial disaster planning exercise with Emergency Services. Community colleges utilize the education services' guidance and leadership for onsite practicum experiences.

Volunteer Services
At Extendicare Tuxedo Villa, our volunteers are an integral and valued part of our team. Volunteers support residents by assisting with scheduled recreation programs, events and one-on-one interactions. Proudly, approximately seventy-five cheery volunteers are on our roster. Many of our long-term volunteers have vast experience in a variety of areas, supported by their interests and skills that they lovingly share with our residents.
Our affiliation with many community-based venues such as churches, schools, work experience, career-building and training programs provide Tuxedo Villa with the opportunity to continually recruit and maintain our valuable volunteer base. Many of our volunteers assist in recruiting others by sharing their positive experiences and encouraging them to join the team.
Each volunteer is identified by a name badge and are trained in the roles they assume. A Pledge of Confidentiality is a component of our orientation program for volunteers, as is resident safety. Our volunteers abide by an established code of conduct, ensuring a respectful and nurturing interaction with your loved one. A volunteer handbook is readily available for volunteers to resource as needed.
We encourage residents' families to join our team of dedicated volunteers if they are comfortable with the commitment.
